Robin Williams

Robin Williams

Robin Williams made me race home from school.

Don’t worry, he wasn’t chasing me. Robin Williams wasn’t my bully. I simply had to be home in time to see Mork & Mindy.

It was the first show, that wasn’t a cartoon, I couldn’t miss and that was down to the unique zaniness of Robin Williams.

I could go on to list decades of iconic magical moments Robin Williams has gifted us. I could reminisce about Mrs. Doubtfire, Dead Poets Society, Good Morning Vietnam and numerous stand-up performances. I could muse upon a kind unassuming man who would explode into dazzling dizzying genius on stage or film. I could reflect upon, as many of us must be doing, the mental health debate his passing has highlighted.

I could take any of these approaches … but a personal thought seems most appropriate.

So … Thank you, Robin Williams. You’ll be missed but thank you for spending time with us. You brought joy to millions.

Nick Jackson was born in the UK, the land of gunpowder tea, but moved to America to escape exploding cups of tea. He now lives in Florida where he attempts come to terms with concepts such as how flat everything is and whether the alligator is a golfer's natural predator. Nick has written for Monkey Pickles from the beginning, as established in Cern, Switzerland, with the discovery of the long-sought Monkey Pickle Particle. He is somewhat "freaked out" by writing in the third person. Nick is motivated to write for the pleasure of the experience rather than to pay the bills, but he does recognize that pleasure is still not an acceptable method of payment in most respectable retail outlets. He hopes to raise a smile or two before being ejected from the store.
